Keith Henderson

Keith HendersonKeith Henderson was born in Glasgow, Scotland and was schooled at Glasgow Academy, including four years in the school Combined Cadet Force and award of a Royal Air Force Flying Scholarship.

After leaving school, he studied Mechanical and Production Engineering at the Stow College of Engineering (now part of Caledonian University) in Glasgow. Industrial training took place at Barr & Stroud Engineering Works (now Pilkington Glass) and at Jos.Rathgeber A.G. an engineering company in Munich, Germany.
After graduation in 1971, he was employed as Ingenieur by National Machinery Corporation, (formerly J.G.Kayser GmbH) a machine manufacturer in Nürnberg, Germany. In 1972, Keith joined Mercury Marine, Belgium, producer of Mercury & Mariner outboard motors and MerCruiser inboard and stern drives. In 1975, he commenced working with Yamaha Motor Company in Amsterdam as Manager in the Technical Department.

In 1984, Keith was elected a Member of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland. In the same year, he left Yamaha to further interests in marine consultancy, publishing and journalism. In 1988, he started the World Marine Engine Database, currently with 10,000+ engine records and 350 engine producers. Data is licensed to a number of companies, publishers and organisations worldwide. In 1994 was elected a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland.

In 1989, Keith joined Jane's Information Group commencing with his appointment as their agent in The Netherlands and became editor of Jane's Information Group's new publication titled Jane's Marine Propulsion.

Working out of his office in Haarlem, near Amsterdam, he has authored a number of marine engine books; his other time is devoted to consultancy projects in the marine industry and writing boating & engine articles for the International Marine and Trade Press.
